What is IPL (intense pulse light)?
IPL uses gentle pulses of light that are absorbed by pigment in the skin. Over time, sunspots and dark patches break up and fade, so your skin looks clearer and more even. It's used for sun damage, pigmentation and uneven skin tone.
Does IPL hurt?
Most people describe a quick, warm snap on the skin with each pulse. It's usually comfortable, and the treatment itself is quick. Tell us if you'd like to pause at any time.
How many IPL treatments will I need?
Most people need a series of treatments, spaced a few weeks apart. Kim will recommend how many you need at your consultation, based on your skin and what you'd like to change.
Is there downtime after IPL?
Downtime is minimal. Your skin may be pink or warm for a short time. Dark spots can look darker at first, then flake away over several days. Wear sunscreen daily and avoid the sun, especially while your skin is healing.
Who isn't IPL suitable for?
IPL isn't recommended on tanned skin or during pregnancy, and some medications and skin conditions make your skin more sensitive to light. We'll check all of this at your consultation, so please tell us about any medication you take.
